LEGAZPI CITY — The Department of Agriculture in Bicol (DA-5) has rolled out more than PHP46 million worth of livestock support to 20 farmers’ groups across the region, reinforcing efforts to increase income opportunities and strengthen food security through poultry production.
Distributed under the Livestock Economic Enterprise Development (LEED) program, the chicken layer modular packages are designed to provide end-to-end production support, enabling organized farmer groups to operate sustainable and market-ready egg-laying enterprises.
Each modular package, valued at approximately PHP2.3 million, includes essential facilities and equipment such as an egg-hauling vehicle to ensure efficient transport of produce from farms to markets. The support also covers 1,000 ready-to-lay White Leghorn chickens, a battery cage system with a 1,000-head capacity, a solar power system, a high-pressure washer, 300 paper egg trays, as well as drugs, biologics, and poultry feeds.
In Albay, Camarines Norte, Catanduanes, Masbate, and Sorsogon, three beneficiary groups per province—comprising farmers’ cooperatives, state universities and colleges (SUCs), and local government units (LGUs)—received the packages. Camarines Sur recorded the highest number of beneficiaries, with five groups gaining access to the program’s support.
DA-5 said the initiative underscores the government’s commitment to expanding the livestock sector in Bicol by equipping farmers and institutions with modern resources that promote productivity, enterprise development, and a stable supply of affordable food.
