DA Turns Over PHP96.35-M Farm Aid Package to Boost Kalinga Agriculture

TABUK CITY, Kalinga — The Department of Agriculture (DA) distributed PHP96.35 million worth of farm equipment, supplies and livelihood interventions to 23 farmers’ associations and cooperatives in Kalinga on Friday, strengthening support for agricultural communities across the province.

The assistance package, formally handed over during a ceremonial turnover, is expected to directly benefit 1,852 farmers and enhance productivity across 565.7 hectares of agricultural land in the municipalities of Pinukpuk, Rizal, Pasil, Lubuagan, Tinglayan and Tabuk City.

In his message to the recipients, DA Undersecretary for Operations and Farm Mechanization Engr. Roger Navarro urged the beneficiaries to properly maintain the equipment and facilities. “Take care of these materials and those you received today so that they will be beneficial to you for many years,” he said.

Among the projects awarded were a solar irrigation system, spring development project, irrigation canal, diversion dam, corn warehouse, drying pavement, hauling truck, rice drying system, livestock enterprise support, heirloom rice project assistance, a Kadiwa grant and a BFAR-CAR livelihood project. These interventions aim to improve farm efficiency, post-harvest handling, water management and income-generating opportunities for rural households.

Raul Pascua, president of the Cawagayan Farmers Association Pinukpuk Cluster 1, welcomed the support and highlighted the value of collaboration. “When we work together, we can achieve so much more,” he said, noting that the assistance represents progress, strengthened partnerships and a promising future for farming communities in Kalinga.
